ASU WINS!

ASU 28-14
I was WORRIED about this game. UA was on a 3-game streak, havng beaten three very good teams. ASU was looking lifeless lately. Guess I shouldn’t have been worried after all. I’m safe for another year.

And TiVos ROCK!!!

[UPDATE] And THEN they fire our coach. Here we go again with the lost years owing to a coach search, then the lost recruits, then the catching up with the NEW recruits, and the saying of “It’s all the previous coaches [fault/recruits/ghost]“, ETC.. All for the sake of the Almighty Fucking Dollar. I say we kill all the boosters and enjoy the GAME again.

(Hello, Libertarian Party? This is Mike, and I’d like to join…)

Online Security

For those of us that use the web a LOT, we can usually sniff out the bad guys just by reading the email/web page carefully.  Sometimes, though, we get bit on the ass.  I had thought I was one of the lucky/good guys.  The other day I got scared BADLY when I resubscribed for one of my magazine subscriptions via an email and then, because the alarm bells started going off POST-FACTO, checked the legitimacy  of the web site after it would have been too late.  Bad Mike.

Turns out I was good, but it scared me badly.  I now have ANOTHER tool or two to help protect Mommas money.

This site it an open, community-based database of known or suspected Phishing sites.  “Phishing” is a term used by the digerati these days to describe people that send you an Email, purporting to be from your bank or whatever, asking you to send your personal info to them to “update” or “confirm” said info.  OR, as in my case, to resubscribe to something.  To use this sites database, just type in the web address of whatever site you suspect.  If it’s been caught by anyone else, it should be here.  As always, lack of evidence does not constitute evidence of innocence.  Be careful and use all the tools you can.

Site #2 is  a tad Geeky for most, but it goes a long way to prevent these bad guys from finding you, or in this site’s case, from YOU finding THEM.  Read it over and see if you understand what the site is doing.  It’s reputable and it is safe.  Just a little Geeky for some of you.  Use your comfort level to decide.

TiVo Hacking!

I just completed my first TiVo hack. My DirecTivo (an R10 unit) came with a single 80Gig hard drive. I cloned that drive to a new Seagate 320Gig drive and added another of the same for a total of 640Gig of video storage. My TiVo now reports 563 HOURS of video storage available, where it had 70 out of the box! W00t!

My TiVo standalone was hacked, but Andy basically did that one.

So, anybody ready to hack their TiVo? I’m ready to help! :)

Things you have to believe to be a US Republican today:

1. Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of the environment, homosexuals, and Hillary.

2. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush’s daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a “we can’t find Bin Laden” diversion.

3. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

4. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iran .

5. A woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

6. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans’ benefits and combat pay.

7. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won’t have sex.

8. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.

9. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

10. Global warming and tobacco’s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

11. A president lying about an extra-marital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

12. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

13. The public has a right to know about Hillary’s cattle trades, but George Bush’s driving and military records are none of our business.

14. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you’re a conservative radio host. Then it’s an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

15. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the ’60s is irrelevant.

“When fascism comes to America , it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.” – Sinclair Lewis, 1935

  • About Me

By day, I'm a mild-mannered tech for a telecommunications company.  Yeah, it's not glamorous, but it pays the bills while I develop an exit strategy.  Meanwhile, I torture my lovely wife with a love for computers, HDTV's, random junk and a poor work ethic.  Enjoy my little short attention-span theater.
